BOSS’s Exceptional Polysynth Pedal Made Better!

Throw the BOSS SY-200 guitar synthesizer pedal on your pedalboard, and you can easily leave the bulky, cumbersome synths at home! This impressive pedal comes stock with 171 sounds divided among 12 styles, giving you instant access to leads, pads, strings, basses, special effects sounds, and more with the turn of a knob. Once you find that perfect sound to inspire your next creation, three tweakable knobs below the LCD screen make it easy to fine-tune your tone to perfection. While the SY-200 takes more than a few cues from its predecessor, the BOSS SY-1, user-focused optimizations like 128 programmable user presets and an enhanced I/O place the SY-200 in a class all its own. With the BOSS SY-200 guitar synthesizer pedal in tow, channeling many of music history’s most sought-after synth sounds with your favorite axe is easier than ever.

171 sounds across a dozen unique styles

With nearly 200 different sounds on tap, the SY-200 packs plenty of versatility to fit comfortably into any rig. Its 171 total sounds clock in at 50 more than its pint-sized sibling the SY-1, divided across a dozen styles for the ultimate in tonal flexibility. These styles cover a broad range of synthetic tones, including:

  • Lead
  • Pad
  • String
  • Bell
  • Organ
  • Bass
  • Dual
  • Sweep
  • Noise
  • SFX
  • SEQ

Handy memory bank stores all your favorite presets

When Sweetwater players first got their hands on BOSS’s SY-1, they were blown away by its incredible arsenal of authentic synth tones. That said, the common request was always the same — a memory bank for saving presets! You asked, and BOSS more than listened, loading the SY-200 with enough memory to store a staggering 128 different sounds for instant recall. Rather than spend countless hours fidgeting to find that sound from last night’s rehearsal, the SY-200 makes it easy to save and pull up presets, with a MEMORY/CTL 1 footswitch on the face for hands-free toggling through saved settings.

Fully featured I/O for whatever rig you’re running

The adventure doesn’t stop at simply exploring the SY-200’s synthy sounds — there are a boatload of I/O options to integrate this pedal directly into guitar and bass rigs of all kinds! Flip it around to the back, and you’ll be met with your standard input and output as well as a parallel send/return, so it plays nicely with all your favorite modulation and time-based pedals. There’s even a CTL 2,3/EXP jack for connecting external footswitches or an expression pedal. Turn to the side, and a pair of 3.5mm MIDI jacks, as well as a micro-USB jack, are ready to take your connections to the next level, allowing for full MIDI support and firmware updates when connected to a computer, respectively.

BOSS SY-200 Guitar Synthesizer Pedal Features:

  • Polyphonic synthesizer pedal for electric guitar and bass
  • 171 total sounds across 12 different styles
  • 3 tweakable parameters per sound

This is a great product! I love playing the different sounds on this SY200 this thing Rocks!
Let's not get crazy. The pedal is cool. 5 stars.
This pedal covers a large variety of different synth sounds in a small compact package. Highly recommend giving this pedal a try it does take awhile though to go through all the variations on the effects but the screen makes it super easy to understand what is going on.
People who say anything bad about this pedal are dead wrong. This pedal is amazing! This pedal tracks flawless in any type of string instrument. I've used this on guitar, mandolin, bass, violin, it doesn't matter! I have an SY-1 as well that I will be selling soon because this pedal has replaced it. The SY-1 needed presets and this is the answer! The effects loop is very cool and you need to experiment with trying different effects in the loop to be creative and come up with your own sounds. If you give this pedal time, experiment, then this pedal is so worth it! You can also try this pedal in the effects loop of another pedal which works great. For instance you can use this pedal in the effects loop of a Gamechanger Audio Plus pedal to get instant pads and freezes. This pedal has a hold function itself so maybe that is overkill for you, but the sky is the limit with pedal. Use this with it's own effects loop, or put this pedal in the effects loop of another pedals, or both! It's a tracking monster synth pedal!
I've messed around with guitar synths for a long time - started with the Roland GR-1. That was a great synth, and way ahead of its time in a lot of ways. But, I always hated the glitchiness that came with the Gk pickup systems. Even with a built-in system (I used a Godin with synth access), the processing lag it had to interpret audio to digital was definitely noticeable, and often problematic. In other words, you had to change how you played completely. When the SY-300 came out, it was a massive jump for Boss/Roland - EHX and a few others were venturing into the waters of just using the 1/4" input, but the SY-300 was insanely cool - and… insanely complex. It was too complex for me honestly. Even with a history of using some of the GR stuff, the SY approached synthesis from a different (albeit extremely cool) angle. But, I ended up selling it, in favor of a simpler SY-1. However, that was too simple and I missed having presets and also longed for MIDI control.

I sorta feel like Goldilocks here - LoL - the SY-300 was "too big", The SY-1 was "too small" - but now the SY-200 is JUST RIGHT!!! I haven't tried the SY-1000 although I am sure it is very cool (and probably way to confusing for me). The 200 sits perfectly between ease of use and wonderfully complex sounds with tonal options/variety. It's simple to tweak, and easy to store presets. If you use a MIDI controller, the screen gives you a great, easy to see, read out of every parameter. You can change CC with no problems, so customizing is easy. It does use the 1/8" inch MIDI ins/outs, which is a somewhat strange departure from regular DIN, but it's nothing new. I have a MIDI controller with 1/8"inch outs, so it wasn't a problem.

As far as sounds go, they are similar to the other SY synths, with that "analog" approach. There are more voices than the SY-1 and tweaking is simpler IMHO. I like the fact that it has an effects loop, which opens up some other cool options. It does not have effects, but I am thankful for that. I prefer to have other effects separate from this unit anyway.

It's fun to get into the sounds, but at the same time it's easy to quickly dial in something that is very usable. I like the Metheny sound, which is not really in there (but I am still tweaking and may come up with it) - I also like the Square wave tones you can get.

All in all a perfect guitar synth pedal for me. Kudos to Chris in sales as well. Sweetwater has a great team.
